USA Climbing News – Colin Duffy Joins US Climbing Team

Colin Duffy (Broomfield, Colorado) made history over the weekend at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Pan-American Championship in Los Angeles, CA as the fourth and final U.S climbing athlete to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team.

The IFSC Pan-American Championships started off with 48 athletes from all over North, Central, & South America competing in a pre-qualifying event with the top 20 from each gender moving onto the Olympic qualifying event. The Pan-American Championships is the first of five Continental Championships. Only the top ranked male & female at each Continental Championship will receive one of the remaining quota spots for the Olympics.

“Earning a spot on the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team is an incredible achievement.  We could not be prouder of Colin and we are honored to be taking a full team to Tokyo for climbing’s debut,” said Marc Norman, Chief Executive Officer of USA Climbing. “We look forward to watching Brooke, Colin, Kyra, and Nathaniel make their Olympic dreams come true.”

The United States is currently the only other nation besides Japan to reach full quota for the Games.

“It doesn’t feel real yet. I’m really excited and incredibly honored to represent Team USA in Tokyo,” said Duffy.

Sixteen-year-old Colin Duffy grew up in Broomfield, Colorado. This is Duffy’s first year competing on the adult climbing circuit. Duffy is a former two-time Youth World Champion in Lead climbing.
